Nature Up Close - Creating an Illustrated Field Journal ~ 1-3PM
Join June Bradley for an exploration of the natural world as observed and recorded by YOU. Field journals have long been utilized by researchers and scientists to record their findings and observations. They can also be a wonderful tool for anyone who loves and appreciates nature and the outdoor experience. During the NATURE UP CLOSE class you will learn how to be more observant while hiking and exploring, as well as how to add descriptive notes to quick sketches made from direct observation of plants, animals and the landscape. Creating an illustrated field journal is a great way to combine an art practice with outdoor time, while documenting your adventures for review later on. We will stop along the trail and look into the microcosmos that thrives at our feet. We will also practice capturing the essence of a landscape with pencil or pen. If you have colored pencils bring those along as well. June will help you discover how to record what you see using line quality, value contrast, focal point, proportion, perspective, and composition. Come with a desire to explore, slow down, and see more fully the beauty that surrounds us.
Rite in the Rain Journals are provided!
