At the Green River Preserve, Martha Wallace has been the Chief Archeologist and has been active with ongoing projects for the past 6 years. You will have the opportunity to actually participate in a dig for Native Artifacts. You will also learn about the general basics of field of archaeology - site identification, phases of excavation, techniques of excavation, soil identification, artifact collection, artifact identification, feature identification, site mapping... You will examine artifacts found on GRP, including artifacts from 10,000 BC to 500 AD. Also, we we'll discuss how projectiles and tools are created by flintknapping with rocks.
